Skills training
What is skills training?
Skills training includes small group skates that incorporate drills that resemble game-like situations and a high level of competition. At times there are will be position based drills where forwards and defensemen will be separated. This allows players to focus on skills specific to their position. Our skills training sessions are separated into two different groups. One group is made up of players born between the years of 2006-2009 and our other group are players born between the years 2010-2012. All of the players in a group will be of a similar skill level, so that drills can be run at a high pace and players can push each other and compete. All of the work we do focuses on skills our players will use in a game, especially little habits and details which help make a positive difference in games. We put a lot of emphasis on awareness and learning to protect ourselves throughout our skates.

When are skill skates?
Players will be able to skate in their respective groups in three separate sessions throughout the course of 2025.
Session 1: Summer session
- Players will still be in their respective groups through the course of the summer. Both groups will have a total of 24 skates each where players will grow and develop skills needed to excel at the next level.
Session 2: Fall session
- Fall skates for the peewee/bantam group will take place in the first three weeks of September before association tryouts. Boys HS will take place throughout September and October. The fall program is a great opportunity for players to spend time on individual development, get a lot of puck touches, and play multiple small area games to get ready for their seasons. A maximum of 8 players will skate in each group and for more information on the schedule see the link below.
Session 3:Winter session
- The third session included is going to be a winter session during Christmas break. More information on this session will be added as the time for these skates approaches.
Where are these skates held?
All skates, both summer and fall sessions, will be held at either the Cottage Grove Ice Arena or the Rosemount Ice Arena.
